8 Things I Love About October

October has come and gone, but we can’t forget the beauty of October. Life has been rough personally, but life has also been uniquely beautiful. We must remember to look back at the memories and be thankful for what is right in front of us. We have four glorious seasons, and each one has beauty. Yet, fall has turning colors on just about every tree. Look around to spot the beauty.

    Special Education Teaching Job

An unexpected opportunity arose and I was asked to take a long term special education position. Teaching is a passion that goes back to my childhood. Helping, educating and making a difference are my goals. I held the same teacher position in 2020 when the teacher went on maternity leave. Additionally, I teach the same students during summer school. I love this job. At first, I asked Jesus why now? I felt like God was telling me a cruel joke. Some circumstances in my life made me question if I can work. I wasn’t sure if I was mentally ready to take on the assignment.

By now, I should realize that Jesus has a sense of humor. He also places opportunities right in front of us at the right time. I leapt, and I am enjoying my job. The life circumstances are still very much existent, but I am learning my way through a season of life. My students make my day, and I couldn’t ask for better coworkers. They understand my cerebral palsy, but we all work concurrently.

    Friends of a Lifetime

Some people come and go in our lives. Some come at the right time. Friendships have been difficult with cerebral palsy. I don’t know why, but people shy away from what they do not understand. I need help driving so I don’t get many invites to go places. Recently, I have learned to be content with the friends I have. The last few months have been difficult with personal issues. I’ve been fortunate to have friends check in, listen and just are here. Stay grateful for the people in our lives and return the favor whenever possible. I wouldn’t have made it without my friends and household.

    Fall Colors Have Been Beautiful

I have noticed an abundance of beautiful fall colors. The trees are vibrant with reds, golds, oranges, and browns. My sister and I have been traveling to look at all the beauty of fall. We drove all around Chester County, Pennsylvania. We took in the gorgeous leaves mixed with the sky color. I do not recall seeing such a pretty autumn in a long time. As we were driving, we stopped in a horse farm for retired horses. To our surprise, we were allowed to feed them. It was a lovely fall day with my sister – beautiful leaves and spending time with horses.

    Halloween Events and Night

Although Halloween isn’t my favorite holiday, it is still a fun event. I think my favorite holiday is Easter. Jason loves Halloween and is always ready to decorate as early as September. This year we were later in the decorating department. My nephew and sister came over to celebrate and decorate. They decorated inside and out. We had pizza and I felt grateful. On Halloween, my son was a giant, blue creature. Jason looked like he tripled his weight. The costume is hilarious, but he normally picks funny costumes. He went trick-or-treating with one of his best friends. I stayed home to hand out candy. There were many adorable children this year, and my dad assisted me hand out candy. We also are some.

    Spending time with family

I live for cozy weekends. Unfortunately, we haven’t had much rain but I love rainy Saturday mornings. I climb on my soft cushion and watch TV, or my son plays Fortnite. Hanging out is relaxing and needed with busy schedules. We attend Mass on Sundays and I teach Sunday school (PREP.) My Dad and I go out to breakfast. Afterward, I come home and help Jason with homework, write, read and relax. My husband works Sunday night so Jason and I end up ordering out for dinner.

    Self discovery

Autumn has given me time to think about what is essential in life. Learning more about God and His plans is beneficial. I have learned that God is by my side, even if I feel lost. Love, boundaries, and trust are essential to prevail in any relationship. I have come a long way in my life. I’m happy with the woman I am and look ahead to seeing what Jesus has planned.

    Jeff and Jason

Jeff and Jason are full of surprises. Jeff surprises me with dinners, brownies, and outings. Jason has become a Boy Scout. He is funny, fearless, and makes me smile!

    Darker nights

I’m rare on this, but I enjoy when it gets darker outside earlier. The time gives me more time to snuggle, set into our routines, and be cozy.

What do you enjoy about October?
