Thanksgiving Day Festivities and Memories

How was your Thanksgiving? The day can go quickly; before you know it, it is over. Our Thanksgiving went well but small. However, no matter how small, I’m thankful for who I have around the table. I’m also grateful for those who couldn’t be with us.

My friend, an attendant, came to dress me and feed me breakfast. I appreciate my care attendants because of much independence. After being ready, Jason and I watched Thanksgiving parades. I switched between three channels. When they ended, I got out of my wheelchair and did a few things on my iPad. We ate something small for lunch. Jason prepared me a plate.

Jason found the Goosebumps movie. I climbed on the couch using an ottoman so we could sit next to each other to watch. We jumped and laughed during the movie. When it ended, Jason drove my wheelchair over to the couch, and I maneuvered myself into my wheelchair. He snapped on my seatbelt, and we got to work!

I am not being able to help hurts sometime due to my disability physically. So many things you see that you want to do but can’t. However, teaching children to be independent is terrific. They are hands-on learning since they know the task can’t complete any other way.

Jason made croissants and biscuits. I talked him through the directions, but he hardly needed my tips. He did a fantastic job without me. Jason set the table and cleaned the rooms as I ran our Shark robot. We set everything up, so when Laura and my dad came with the turkey, we were all set to eat. Jeff warmed the mashed potatoes and corn when he came home from work.

When Laura and my dad came, the turkey looked as good as it tasted. We missed my mom, but her dog is having health issues. My siblings had their plans. So, it was our small group. The food came out delicious, as well as the apple pie. We had a great meal. Complete with grace, Jason recited the Hail, Holy Queen, and went around the table saying what we’re thankful for this year.

My dad left before we ate pie, but he returned today for lunch and had some. Laura and Jason played, watched a movie, and played some more. Jeff and I secretly Black Friday Christmas shopped. Of course, our two elves came out again, adding a fun element.

Now, it’s time to recharge, clean, and prepare for the Advent season!
