Phillies Baseball to Politics Energize

The Phillies Baseball team went to the World Series and lost. They gave it a great shot but fell short toward the end. Yet, for a brief moment, the Philadelphia area had solidarity. Politics didn’t matter, race or anything else, when our sports teams were doing good.

Politics are always at the front of many minds. For me, it’s difficult being a conservative in a liberal town. I can only be who I am. I’m used to being different, though, because of having cerebral palsy. Lately, when I teach, there are kids in the class who think how I speak is hilarious. I’m sure they don’t realize what they look like laughing at me, and I pause to say a prayer that they do better; standing out seems to be my specialty.

Speaking of politics, I heard students talk about abortion. Abortion used to be something people didn’t want to discuss. It used to be everyone knew it was wrong but wanted it available for extreme cases. Now, people think abortion kills nothing significant. Somehow the humanity of the new human being has been forgotten. These students talked about abortion as if it were a procedure for trimming toenails. Abortion became meaningless.

Phillies Baseball to Politics and Abortion

Abortion isn’t meaningless. It does destroy a human being. I am empathetic to those who are in horrendous situations. Abortion works as a tool to solve a problem. However, “the problem” is a new human being. “My body, my choice” has lost its effectiveness as an argument because science states that they are two human beings. The one dying has no choice as their body parts. Not the woman.

I pray that one day – abortion will be a nonissue and we can stick with Phillies Baseball team. I’m not sure what more people need to realize killing somebody is wrong. Abortion affects so many more than that one person dying. It’s eroding society’s view of the importance of each one of us. We are valuable and not disposable. Each life matters. A vast void is with all of us over the millions and millions who were aborted. We have no clue about the impact.

I think about this each time I vote, speak on the issue, pray and help others. Not much will change unless we want it to by seeing the situation as accurately as it is. Abortion takes a human life out of existence. Does that sit well with you?

One day, I hope we are cheering on everyone’s life just like we did when the Phillies Baseball team were in the World Series. Just like a sports team, everyone has value, dignity and respect – no matter how small, disability, race, gender or how they came into existence. We all have a place on the team.
