Watching The Olympics With My Kids

I’m a huge Olympic watching fan from ever since I can remember. I have fond memories of gathering around my grandmothers television in the 1980s with my cousins as we watched the Olympics unfold. I don’t know what interested me so much. The competition, the hard work ethic, the putting all you have out there or the unity of the world are all valid reasons why I enjoyed them.

I am a firm believer of hard work equals reward. I do not think it necessarily has  money is the final destination  but more about accomplishments.  I worked hard to become a teacher, but my hard work has paid off in other ways. Accomplishment, blog, columns and speaking all have been my rewards.

In many ways, Jeff and I are very different, but we do have a lot of things in common.  One of them is that we both enjoy watching the Olympics.  And, oddly enough, we both like curling in the Winter Olympics.  Many think curling is boring, but we both got excited about it after watching the last winter Paralympic Games.  Curling because absolutely fascinating!

Since Jeff worked often when the Olympics were on, I had them on television regardless. I am very pleased to note that Laura and Jason liked watching them as well.  They both liked the same sports that we liked especially curling and ice skating.

Jason liked watching the scoring colors when ice skaters performed. I thought it was so funny to hear him narrate the sport as the competition continued. We would also pile on my bed to watch each night.  One by one they would grow tired and sleep in their own rooms.  We had a very nice thing going the last few weeks.

Jeff and I did manage to squeeze some Olympics watching in together. Unfortunately, he came down with pneumonia and couldn’t work for a few days.  He is doing better now.  As a family, we are all awaiting the Paralympic Games coming March 9!!
