Awesome Retirement Celebration after Peace

Today we went to Mass and a retirement celebration. We only miss a Sunday if someone is sick or there are some circumstances that we can’t make it. I enjoy going to Mass because it’s a spiritual reboot. No matter how exciting or tedious a homily is, the main focus is the Eucharist and Jesus. Nothing else matters, and you can’t find the Eucharist unless you’re at Mass.

Laura and Jason altared served. An altar server helps the priest with Mass by holding the Bible, carrying the cross, helping with the gifts of the Eucharist, and processing with candles. Being an altar server is a volunteer opportunity and builds skills of leadership.

Today a funny thing happened during Mass and before the retirement fun. Jeff’s phone went off while it was on silent and wouldn’t go off. I could barely look at Jason because we have a very similar sense of humor. I could scarcely look at him because we would lose it to make eye contact.

After Mass, we stopped by our grocery store to buy a few items. Laura and Jason went in with me—no fighting or getting me to purchase many things we didn’t need. We had a good time. The grocery store is in the same shopping center as the pet store. Jason buys crickets each week for his anole. We saw two cats that needed adoption, but our house was whole. Hopefully, they will be adopted soon!

After dropping the groceries off and feeding Pat (the anole,), we went to a retirement picnic for a priest I had known for 27 years. He performed the marriage ceremony for Israel and me, confirmed Israel into Catholicism, baptized Laura, and held a funeral Mass for Israel. So that are four life-changing events in my life. Then, of course, I had to go to his celebration.

My Dad, Laura, Jason, and I went. The weather could not have been more perfect. The food tasted delicious. Seeing people that I hadn’t seen in a while was fun. Jason enjoyed playing with the kids. Laura became bored fairly early – being a teenager does that to you. But we stayed for 3 hours. When I saw all the people, it’s amazing to see how many wanted to celebrate his retirement.

Jeff made macaroni and cheese for dinner, and we sat on the deck. This coming week Laura has finals, as well as Jason. Plus, he has baseball practice three nights in a row.

Have a happy day!
