Happiness makes cerebral palsy easier everyday

Happiness is what I learned during the coronavirus pandemic. I learned a deeper meaning of happiness. When the pandemic takes away from you, and life is down to the bare bones, it is only up to you to find what makes you happy.

I like to be happy. Complaining, gossiping, only finding the negative in life pulls you down. In no way does it make you feel good. Contentment is the name of my game. Sure, I dream and wish, but when the world stopped, finding contentment made life better.

Top Ten List of What Makes Me Happy

    1. God – God makes me happy. When the pandemic started, I’d go on long walks. I would pray the Rosary for mainly the end of the coronavirus and please not to let my parents or children get it. I grew closer to God by the Hallow app and listening to the Podcasts. Now, I listen to Bible in the Year. I’m loving going back to physical Mass plus continuing to teach my children about God.
    2. My kids – I love my children. They make me beyond happy, and being a mother had been the best thing ever. They’re adorable and challenging. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
    3. My husband – Jeff, and I have gone through challenges, frustrations, different perspectives, struggles, and likes/wants. However, we have taught each other and are there when needed. We try to keep going forward no matter the battle we face.
    4. Quiet – I admit I probably don’t have any alone time unless I choose not to sleep. When I long for it, I think quicker than I know it: I’ll have nothing but quiet. However, when I do get quiet or alone time, I am happy. I can think my thoughts, play a game, or do whatever I’d like.
    5. Friends and family- I like people with who I can be myself around. Not everyone can accept who I am because of disability reasons or because of political stances. However, I do have friends and family who I couldn’t live without and appreciate.
    6. Routines – I enjoy patterns – especially in the winter. There’s something cozy about coming home from work, showering, getting in comfy pajamas, and just doing whatever the kids would like until bedtime. Happiness in patterns feels good.
    7. Spring and summer – I love the beauty of spring, flowers, not needing a jacket, birds chirping, and the rain.
    8. Animals- I love my dogs and cats. They’re so happy to see us, cuddle and fun to pet. Their personalities crack me up. Simon, our smallest dog, makes it hard to get out of bed in the morning because he likes to cuddle.
    9. Clean house- I love an organized and clean place with a made bed. One thing I don’t like about cerebral palsy is not being about to clean myself. However, I’m lucky to have attendants, kids, and Jeff to assist me.
    10. Teaching- Being a teacher has been a dream come true. I’ll never forget the day I started my position as a long-term sub. I’m hoping I’ll have another teaching job in the fall.

    What brings you happiness?
