Amazing Things I Absolutely Love About My Children

I think it has been too long since I wrote a blog about my amazing kids. I can say amazing because all kids are truly amazing. Since I see them more because I’m home when they are, I realize how incredibly unique they are. I’m grateful that I can be here to just be in their presence because they are just too neat not to be around.

Jason is my amazing first grader

Next month Jason is going to be seven. Where did seven years go? Jason is a fun, sensitive and smart kid to be around. His smile lights up a room and makes you instantly smile back. He knows exactly how to make me laugh (which isn’t always good when I’m trying to be serious!)

Jason can remember things that happened basically since he was born. Out of nowhere, he will tell you an elaborate story about something that you forgot long ago. He’s quick to think and has a good work ethic when it comes to homework. Like any kid, he isn’t fond of cleaning his room, but when he puts his mind to it, he can clean well. He actually would rather clean windows because he enjoys spraying things. Jason loves Jesus and strives to do the right thing. He loves Minecraft!

In many ways, Jason is a lot like me. We like to keep the peace, sensitive to sedimental things and laugh at everything. I love hearing what he has done in school because he tells me with great enthusiasm. He is an excellent reader and getting the hang of math (I was the opposite on that..math was my strong point.)

    Laura is in 7th grade

Laura is my serious teenager who has found her sense of self. Laura is definitely more serious at everything than even I am. But it has gotten her places! She has had distinguished honors all but once since kindergarten. Everything she is passionate about, she has succeeded doing to the fullest degree. She was Little Running Rabbit in Pocahontas in the fall play and Candy Hammernose in the upcoming spring play, Madagascar.

I can trust Laura to make the right decision even though I’m her soundboard. She overwhelms herself with the idea of failure even though her greatest failures are seen as great successes to most. She has very deep thought and strives for justice in everything.

Laura might not laugh a lot, but I still know how to get her laughing. She is compassionate, factual and loves all animals. She is eager to help someone in need and would gladly give away anything to make someone happy.

Laura and Jason are great siblings. One minute they bicker and then the next breath they are hugging each other. They hate to see each other in pain or in trouble. They are independent and helpful.
