Winter Time Happenings in the House

Winter used to be not my favorite season.  The cold runs havoc on cerebral palsy causes muscles to be stiff or flat out haywire with involuntary movements. Since having children, my perspective has changed.

I actually enjoy the coziness of the dark, cold night.  It forces us to get in our warm pajamas and be together.  The kids still play outside during winter when it’s light out especially Jason and his best friend.  They could play outside for hours no matter the cold. On a weekend, Jason’s best friend slept over and it happened to snow!  They enjoyed playing in the snow and would come into warm up and go back outside.

I enjoy watching the snow fall. The beauty in the silence covering the ground pure white. It’s all peaceful.  Of course, I worry about the people driving in it, but when I can allow myself not to worry – I feel peace.  Hot chocolate helps too.

It has been a cold January and February.  I remember plenty of mornings and it was 9 degrees!

Winter Kids

Laura has been doing awesome at winter guard. She feels stressed out at all the moves especially throwing the flag high up.  She comes home from practice with bandaids and bruises.  However, she feels accomplished. Winter guard reminds me of when I’d dance – especially in my wheelchair dance group. All of the practice, not wanting to be the one to mess up while trying to enjoy the process.  It’s all a wonderful memory. Laura has also been practicing for the play, Wizard of Oz. She has five different roles so I am not too sure how she keeps it straight.

Jason has been preparing for the play, 101 Dalmatians.  He will be playing Pongo. In October, he was Aladdin!  It delighted us to see him in such a role considering how shy he used to be. He’s also killing it at school with grades, fun and friendships.  He will be 9 years old in a few weeks.  Jason is a winter baby. He’s such a sweet kid. I can’t believe 9 years flew by.  He enjoys sledding with any snow we do get.  He quickly gears up and is outside in the snow no matter how little or much we actually have.

As for me, I’m navigating this life with cerebral palsy, fears, and love.  Laura had omnicron in January and that was scary!  Luckily, she didn’t have it in her lungs.  Jeff also had it.  We missed school for a week.  Speaking of missing school, I had to leave early due to sickness on Wednesday.  Nor Covid  – thank goodness.  It was a sinus infection that mainly made me feel miserable for about 2 long days.

I’m just working out, taking positive parenting classes (I highly recommend,) praying as much as possible and spreading happiness.   I also bought a new couch!

  1. This design is incredible! You certainly know how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
