Jason Turns Five Years Old Today and Time Flies

Today is Jason’s fifth birthday! He is so excited to be five years old.  I remember everything about his birth like it was yesterday, and yet it was five years ago!!!  Jason was born 19 days early for a scheduled c section.  I woke up around one in the morning feeling not so good on February 20. After using the bathroom, I noticed some pain that came and went. I handle pain quite well so I didn’t realize I was actually in labor.

I googled my symptoms on my iPad, and the more I read, the more I realized that Jason was coming today.  I thought to myself about waiting for Laura to go to kindergarten and then I’ll call the doctor. I realize how ridiculous that sounds now.  I woke my husband around 4am to tell him we needed to go to the hospital.

My daughter, Laura, felt less than thrilled we woke her to go to the hospital. She herself was actually only five and tired! I called my doctor and she said she’d meet us at the hospital soon.  I think we arrived around 5 in the morning, and we called our fathers to come asap to stay with Laura in the waiting room.  Both of them were in disbelief that it was happening now. Our moms couldn’t make it due to one recovering from surgery and the other out of town.

At 7:50am, Jason was born at five pounds and 15 ounces. He seemed to have a smile on his face when I first saw him. He didn’t cry at first which scared me and Jeff. But when he cried, it was the best cry ever!

Now five years later, he’s an incredible little guy. You never know what he will say – serious, funny, out of the blue or quirky.  He’s very smart with a great sense of humor. Jason knows exactly how to make his mommy laugh. He absolutely hates it when I’m sad or sick. Jason is crazy about his big sister and the feeling is mutual.

Time flew with Jason, and I wish I could re live the first five years again.  I look forward to seeing what he becomes and accomplishes in life. I’m so thankful that I have a front row seat!
