Fun Valentine’s Day Crafts and Activities for Children

Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to spread love and joy, and kids are no exception! This holiday can be an excellent opportunity for children to express their creativity, kindness, and affection. St.Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays because I love pink, red and love. I’m also a fan of romance and family.

When my kids were younger, I hung hearts on their door starting February 1 to the 14th with one reason why I love them. Now I text them each day in February. Here are some delightful and fun-filled ideas to make Valentine’s Day extra special for kids:

    1. Homemade Cards

Get crafty with homemade Valentine’s cards! Kids can use colorful paper, stickers, glitter, and markers to create unique and personalized cards for their friends and family. Encourage them to write heartfelt messages or draw cute pictures to add a personal touch. There are so many options to create cards. Construction paper, white paper, computer-generated cards, or e-cards are some ideas. Take some construction paper, fold it in half, and go to town with creativity.Be positive as the child creates the card. Don’t let your expectations cloud their creativity. Bring out the markers, colored pencils, crayons, and paint – go to town.

    2. Valentine’s Day Treasure Hunt

Plan a Valentine’s Day treasure hunt around the house or yard. Create clues and hide little treats or small toys for the kids to find. This activity is not only fun but also keeps kids engaged and excited as they search for hidden surprises. Most kids love a good treasure hunt. Even if you have a disability, you can create a pretty cool treasure hunt. Just hide candy, little toys, stickers and cards around. They can just look or you can create clues and they can look for them.

    3. Baking Sweet Treats

Spend some quality time in the kitchen baking Valentine’s Day treats. Heart-shaped cookies, cupcakes, or even a chocolate cake can be a hit. Let the kids help with mixing, decorating, and, of course, tasting the delicious goodies. I like chocolate anything and they like sugar cookies. Baking is difficult with cerebral palsy, but whenever I have help, I will bake and create. My husband is not a baker so it’s extra special when he bakes for St. Valentine’s Day.

    4. DIY Valentine’s Crafts

Set up a crafting station with supplies like construction paper, scissors, glue, and decorations. Kids can make Valentine’s Day-themed crafts such as paper hearts, love bugs, or even a “love jar” where they can write down things they love about their family and friends. I love crafts like homemade towels using fabric paint. The opportunities are endless and encouraged.

    5. Valentine’s Day Story Time

Gather the kids for a cozy story time with Valentine’s Day-themed books. Stories about love, friendship, and kindness are perfect for the occasion. You can even have the kids act out their favorite stories for added fun. Your local library has some great selections of books as well as Amazon. Reading St. Valentine’s Day books and stories is a fun bonding experience.

    6. Valentine’s Day Movie Marathon

Host a Valentine’s Day movie marathon with kid-friendly films about love and friendship. Set up a comfy movie-watching area with blankets, pillows, and popcorn. Some great movie options include “Beauty and the Beast,” “Lady and the Tramp,” and “The Princess and the Frog.” There are so many options available to watch that your kids will love.

    7. Valentine’s Day Bingo

Create a Valentine’s Day Bingo game with themed pictures or words on the cards. Kids can use candy hearts or stickers as markers. It’s a fun and interactive game that everyone can enjoy. I don’t know too many children that do not like Bingo. Make it fresh and exciting with candy and a love theme. You can always use synonyms that describe them.

    8. Acts of Kindness

Encourage kids to spread love by performing acts of kindness. They can make a list of things they can do to make others happy, such as helping a sibling, writing a thank-you note, or giving a compliment. Acts of kindness are a great way to teach kids about empathy and generosity. As many of you know, I love acts of kindness. They can be simple to elaborate but we all can use some kindness in the world.

    9. Valentine’s Day Photo Booth

Set up a Valentine’s Day photo booth with props like heart-shaped glasses, funny hats, and signs with sweet messages. Kids can take fun and silly pictures with their friends and family, creating memories to cherish. One day you and your children will look at the pictures and remember all of the fun memories that you shared. You can never have too many pictures.

    10. Valentine’s Day Dance Party

Turn up the music and have a Valentine’s Day dance party! Play fun and upbeat songs that kids love, and let them dance their hearts out. You can even have a dance-off with prizes for the best moves. We love to dance and be silly. Turn up the music and dance away.

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful occasion to celebrate love and joy with kids. With these creative and heartwarming ideas, you can make the day extra special for the little ones. Enjoy the fun and spread the love and kindness.
